Magazin of Color / Editorial Illustration
The article “Invisible Work” by Serap Yilmaz-Dreger is about the unpaid and often invisible work that some of us (have to) do. Especially in the context of intersectionality.

I usually work with a rather colorful palette, but for this illustration, I’ve chosen a restrained palette, as the light sheets almost disappearing on the background symbolize invisibility. My goal was to create contrasts so that the flying sheets almost seem to erase the woman.

The hands holding the sheets signal a protective posture and emphasize her intersectionality. Most work requires their employees to tidy themselves up – for example, with lipstick and a dress. But at the same time, women also need to protect their bodies from sexual assault.

Magazin of Color is an anti-racism magazine that was launched by two editors, Akosua Abrefa-Busia and Pia Ihedioha – two students at the University of Passau. Through the magazine, MoC wants to make an active contribution to the anti-racism discourse in Germany. They are supported by a young, motivated team.
