This illustration is part of a personal project called “Rewriting the Past.” In the last months, I have spent a lot of time researching vintage advertisements, photos, and the famous “Holiday” magazine. While I was already aware of it, I am continually struck by how incredibly white, racist, patriarchal, classist, and sexist that content is.

After watching the series “Bridgerton,” which effortlessly portrays black people in the early 1900 as equals to their white counterparts, it became clear to me that I wanted to reimagine the past through illustration, creating an utopian world for black women.
